On Friday morning about 4:50 am Covin came in our room crying telling me his belly hurt. He told me he thought he was really hungry. He sometimes gets nauseated when he does eat sometimes. Anyways, Shaffen was going to be getting up at 5 am for work so he just took Covin into the kitchen to him a banana. I laid in be still then I heard him trying to throw up. So I jumped up and went into where they were. He was standing next to the sink and crying. I gave him the banana and had him sit down. He then told me that his legs hurt really bad. I felt his head he was a little warm it was 99.9. I decided to give him Motrin for the leg pain. Anyways I had him go to the bathroom, thinking maybe that is why his stomach hurt. He went and didn't feel any better AND he wouldn't walk. When he did walk he limped. So I had him lay down with me. Around 6 he wanted to go to the bathroom again so I carried him in there. Then Conner got up and everyone stayed up. I took them both into the living room to watch TV. Covin laid down and pulled his legs up into his belly. I went back into my room to text Shaffen when I heard Covin puking into the sink. I ran in there cleaned him up and decided to call the on call doctor. I was scared he might have appendicitis. Around 7:15 the doc called me and I explained everything to him and he told me to take him to the ER. I showered really fast and called Rachel to see if she would watch Conner. I got Covin up and carried him to change his clothes he refused to leave the house until he showered. After 2 hours of Motrin his legs still hurt. In the tub he wouldn't stand or let me wash his belly. He said his legs didn't hurt if he kept them up. Only hurt when they were straight. We went to the ER at about 8:15 am and they wanted to do xrays and blood work before they did a cat scan. After a few hours they came in and told me they wanted to do the cat scan because he had a high white count (which means infection). Around noon they brought him in contrast to drink for the cat scan. After 2 hours we went and got it done. They didn't have a radiologist to read it so they had to tele-fax it to Tucson for them to read. About 4 they got the results and it said that they were unable to visualize the appendix......very frustrating!!! But not anyones fault. In the mean time they had talked to the surgeon to give him a heads up that Covin might have appendicitis. The doctor came in and told me that something is wrong with him and they aren't sure if it is his appendix and that I could take him home and watch him. They decided to give him an antibiotic because he did have an infection somewhere. After all that was done the Surgeon called me on my cell phone and told me what to watch for at home and if anything happens to call him on his cell phone and he will meet me at the hospital. I felt good about that. In the mean time they had called the Surgeon and told him that they had gave him some antibiotics. Well it wasn't what he wanted him to have so he came down to the hospital and told me that Covin had to stay for at least a day so they could closely watch him. He explained that because they gave him that certain antibiotic that it could take away his inflammation of the appendix, if he had any, and they wouldn't be able to tell if it is appendicitis because it will make his white count come down and make him feel better. The antibiotics will last for 36 hours and they needed to watch. If they wear off and he did have appendicitis that he would be in trouble. So they wouldn't let us go home! After 4 IV attempts and 2 more blood draws, Covin was telling everyone that he got 6 pokes! Poor kid I felt so bad for him. We missed the Safford vs. Thatcher Football game, he missed his first Flag Football game (which his team won :) ) I finally got a smile out of him because I got him 2 more webkins! I actually really enjoyed spending all of that alone time with him he is such a crack up! After 12 hours in the ER they finally got him into a room!
Shaffen stayed with him at night.....not sure if he really wanted to or he didn't want to deal with Conner being up all night like usual! :) And to top it all off Shaffen has been scheduled for training in Utah for months now and had to leave Sunday morning for a week! We were so frustrated and nervous I think I broke down and lost it at least 5 times! Shaffen was leaving me with not knowing about Covin having appendicitis or not. He felt so bad leaving us, but we didn't know what else to do! To make a long story short, we were able to go home Sunday at noon! This kid acts just fine. There is a ton I left out but I have to get ready for school!
Thank you everyone who has helped me with Conner! I am not really sure what I would have done without your help!
AND Conner the day I drove Covin home from the hospital I took him out of his car seat and he felt warm! Yeah 102.3 temp!!!! AAAAHHHHH! Seriously what else could go wrong.....I know I know plenty! This crazy kid has hurt his eye 3 times in 1 week! This is his last episode of hitting his head on his bed! Good thing he is tough!
We are trying to get back to normal, Covin went back to school Monday and feels fine now. Not really sure what he had but it was scary! I am glad that it is over with!!!! And I know Covin is too!

It is so scary when kids are sick. At least you have good connections at the hospital and they take REALLY good care of you. I am glad to hear that Covin is feeling better. My kids had the fever thing last week along with a nasty rash all over their bodies. It only lasted a few days. YUCK! Here comes winter!
Covin you are my hero!!! I can't even take 1 poke. Misty you are an awesome mom to know what to do. Sorry about your weekend but glad for how it all turned out.
I'm so glad that things are better. I know you have family here, but if you ever need help please call.

Wow. When it rains it pours, huh?! Glad Covin's feeling better. That is very strange.
I'm glad it's all over. This time anyway :) Jk I hope you have a good weekend. You deserve some recovery time.
Dang! I was about to have a anxiety attack reading that story to see what happened...I'm so happy that he is ok. Prayers really work!
Misty,
Geez, you poor thing. I know it's hard on the kiddo's but it's really hard on the parents. That stinks that of all times Shaffen had to be up here training. At least he didn't end up having to get surgery. I'm glad to hear they are feeling better. Adia's been sick since Friday. I think she has a cold. Oh well, hope you are doing well. Shaffen said he's going to bring you guys up for a visit. Hope to see you soon.
Take care,
Brandy
Yikes, not fun. You are so brave to be there by yourself but like you said what else could you do. I'm glad everything turned out okay. Congratulations on going to school and going for nursing, that was what I wanted to do once. Now there is no way! You are amazing!
